Cities on the Grow is conducting two surveys, each in two languages (English and Dutch). Each survey focuses upon Community Food Enterprises (CFE), one from the perspective of a CFE member with detailed knowledge of the enterprise and its operations, and the other from the perspective of a consumer who shops with a CFE. We would greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete either or both of the surveys depending upon their relevance to you. However, before you proceed to do so, we ask you to read carefully the following statements. Please be sure that you and/or the organization you have in mind match the relevant survey participant specifications.
What is a Community Food Enterprise?
There is no hard and fast definition of what constitutes a CFE. For the purposes of this project, CFEs seek alternative, local responses to the food cycle. They operate under several legal designations, with a diversity in both the scale and scope of business practices that span all stages of this cycle – farming and growing; distribution; processing and retail; consumption and waste.
To help you think about whether an organization you have in mind is or is not a CFE we also have created a list that organises CFEs by the different operations they perform within the food cycle. If an enterprise that you have in mind fits the above description and performs one or more of the operations listed below, please continue to the surveys at the bottom of the page.
- Primary production
- Waste management
Community Food Enterprise Survey
This survey is for completion by a member of a CFE with business practices in London, Reading, or Almere. We are looking for those members with detailed knowledge of their CFE, including the share of paid/voluntary work, legal and finance structure, and annual turnover amongst other factors regarding its operations. Please only complete this survey if the CFE you have in mind is located in, or within a 30 mile (50 km) radius of the edge of your respective case study city.
This survey is for completion by those who reside in London, Reading, or Almere, and who shop with a CFE that is located in, or within a 30 mile (50 km) radius of the edge of their respective case study city. Please only complete this survey if you are the person who does the shopping within your household. If you own, work for, or volunteer at a Community Food Enterprise and also shop with a Community Food Enterprise, then please feel free to complete both questionnaires.
